How to Password Protect a PDF - A Simple Way!
How to password protect a PDF
You don't need Acrobat or any other software. Upload the PDF, set a password, and share the link — anyone opening it sees a password screen first.
Available on the Solo plan and above.
Steps
- Go to tiiny.host and log in.
- Drag your PDF onto the upload area.
- Choose a link name — this becomes your web address.
- Open the Access Gate dropdown and choose Password protected.
- Type the password you want to use.
- Click Publish.
Share the link and the password separately — ideally by different means, so one intercepted message doesn't give away both.
Useful alongside it
- Stop people downloading or printing it — for anything you want read but not kept
- Hide from search engines — set from the same Access settings
- Customise the password screen — put your own branding on it
Updating the PDF later
Click Update and upload the new version. Your link, QR code and password all stay the same.
