# How to password protect your project

Password protection puts a password screen in front of your project, so only the people you share it with can see what's inside. It works with anything you upload — a website, a PDF, a presentation, a portfolio.

| Available on the Solo plan and above.

### Add a password when you upload

4. Under **Settings** just below, you can also switch on:
* **Hide from search engines** — stops your link being indexed by Google
* **Enable comments** — lets visitors leave comments on your work (Tiny plan and above)
5. Click **Publish**.

### Add a password to a project that's already live

You don't need to re-upload anything.

1. On your dashboard, click the **Update** icon next to the project.
2. Select **Customize project**.
3. Open **Access settings** and choose **Password Protect**.
4. Set your password and click **Publish**.

### Change or remove the password later

Forgot your project's password? No problem, you don't need the old one. 

Go to **Update** → **Customize project** → Access settings, type a new password, and click **Publish**.

From there you can change the password, switch the project to [email capture](https://helpdesk.tiiny.host/en/article/how-to-create-an-email-capture-landing-page-1mpgld9/) (Pro plan and above), or make the project public again. Your changes take effect as soon as you click **Publish**, and your link stays exactly the same either way.

### My site isn't asking for a password

Once someone has entered the password on a device, their browser remembers them and won't ask again. Your site is still hidden from anyone who hasn't entered it.

To check it's working properly, open your link in a private or incognito window, or on a different device.
